I spent a week in the Suzuki Dzire, with looks and mechanically underpinnings shared with the Suzuki Swift, I was not shocked when people said I was driving the Suzuki Swift Sedan.
The Suzuki Dzire is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 61kW and 113nm of torque and while the power figures might not be their strong point, the fuel consumption is definitely where it holds its ground. With an overall average of 4.0l per 100km when I had in on test for the week, I managed a hefty 1200kms on a single tank with still over 100kms of range left making it the most fuel-efficient car to ever Grace the Kumbi-M on Cars driver way.
Another department that overly impressed me was the amount of space in the cabin as well as the boot. The Suzuki Dzire effortlessly sits 4 grown adults with their luggage. The cabin features cloth upholstery, electric windows all around, air conditioning, a 12V socket, and a rear armrest with cupholders. While there isn't Android Auto or Apple Carplay, the Dzire does come with an MP3/WMA compatible CD player with Bluetooth as well as a USB and Aux port.
While the driver seat can not be adjusted by height, there is enough room to move in reach and you easily have a perfect view of the road.
On the exterior, my test model was the top of the range GL model that features chrome detailing on the front, front fog lamps as well as 15-inch alloy wheels.
Verdict?
While the Dzire might be seen as a ride-hailing vehicle, I think it’s time people changed that perception. I had a very economical drive in the Dzire and in these trying times, every cent goes a long way. Another bonus is that it’s affordable, coming in at R229 900, young families looking into buying budget sedans without looking into the pre-owned market, I think this would suit them perfectly.
