We spent time sampling the all-new BMW M240i xDrive in what was a thrilling and jaw-dropping week. Our test unit stood out from the crowd with it being fully kitted out in carbon-fibre M Performance parts and glazed in a majestic thunder night metallic coating. Powered by BMW's infamous B58 engine the BMW M240i xDrive is rapid and quick to respond to any slight pressure from your right foot. The 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine produces a staggering 285kW and 500Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels via the xDrive system. This results in a 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.3 seconds.

The rear end of the BMW M240i xDrive features the stunning new BMW taillights, M240i and xDrive badging, a carbon-fibre boot spoiler, a rear diffuser and dual tailpipes which roar and produce some crackles and pops regardless of the driving mode you are in.

Inside, the M240I is well-appointed with high-quality materials and a sleek, modern design. The M Sport steering wheel is firm and responsive, the sports seats are comfortable and supportive making the overall driving position perfect for both daily commuting and weekend drives. The Harman Kardon sound system fitted in the BMW is absolutely impressive. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with OS 7 and the 12.3-inch digital driver's display offers a lot of clear information to the driver.

What is the BMW M240i xDrive like to drive?

The BMW M240i xDrive is a powerful and athletic sports coupe that offers thrilling performance and handling. The M Sport suspension, variable sport steering and adaptive M suspension allow for precise and agile handling making the M240i a blast to drive. Piloting the pocket rocket space coupe is a joy, it is mind-bogglingly quick with no turbo lag whatsoever and very powerful brakes.

It feels extremely well-planted to the ground and the xDrive ensures all four wheels stay on track at all times fuelling you with all the confidence you need in any weather condition. The BMW M240i can switch effortlessly from the perfect comfortable daily driver into hooligan mode in the blink of an eye, it does this through the drive modes it offers; Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Adaptive which adapts to the way you are driving. The gear changes in the 8-speed automatic gearbox are seamless and the suspension is very smooth.

The BMW M240i xDrive coupe has a muscular appearance with curves in all the right places and immense road presence. It was a joy to drive and is indeed a full-performance package. We managed to average 7.8l/100km on our less-spirited drives and just over 10l when having fun. This is a car meant for two people and we would not recommend any adults to occupy the rear 2 seats on long journeys as they would be very uncomfortable. The M240i xDrive comes with 6 airbags standard and received a 4-star safety rating from the Euro NCAP vehicle safety programme.

Overall,  the BMW M240i xDrive is a top-performing sports coupe that offers a great balance of luxury and performance. It is perfect for driving enthusiasts who want a car that is both practical and thrilling to drive.
