Limited Edition VW Golf GTI TCR launched virtually
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Volkswagen South Africa had their first virtual launch today and they revealed the Golf GTI TCR which is scheduled to arrive in July 2020 if all goes accordingly with only 300 of these models being sold from R669 000. The South African Market will also receive only the 5-door variant.
Quick Facts
2.0 TSI DSG
7 Speed
213kw/380nm
Top Speed 264km/h (Vmax limiter is removed)
0-100 in 5.6 seconds
Packing a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine which produces a 213kw and 380nm of torque ( 44kw more than the standard GTI and 30nm more of torque) the Golf GTI TCR is capable of sprinting from a standstill to 100km/h in just 5.6 seconds while topping the speed at 264 km/h, with the limiter removed as standard.
While the Golf GTI TCR will be priced from R669 000 Volkswagen has slapped on some cool standard features:
- Dynamic Chassis Control
- Three exterior colours; Pure White, Pure Grey (my personal favourite) and Tornado Red.
- Park Assist
- Panoramic Sunroof
- Active Info Display
- We Connect Go
While there are some honeycomb decals on the sides of the Golf TCR, you receive 19inch Reifnitz alloys as well as matte-black side mirrors, TCR Logo on sides, Logo Projection from the side mirrors and Performance Disk Brakes and once you climb inside the Interior is quite stunning, you receive a numbered plaque (e.g 1of 300 ) which will be placed under the Rear GTI Logo, special sports seats, Velour Gear boot & Door inserts and a special TCR Steering wheel with a red 12Hr Mark.
The GTI TCR is however R91 000 more expensive than the standard GTI & only R26 000 less of the Golf 7 R but I think it is well worth it for me. Volkswagen has also gone an extra mile and will be offering buyers an exclusive TCR keyring, cap and an ownership certificate.
