Quick Facts

  • Price: From R134 900
  • Engine: 1.0-litre petrol
  • Power/Torque: 50 Nm/90 Nm

The Suzuki S-Presso is the manufacturer’s latest offering and is the new kid on the block also competing for the budget car title and hopefully it can win the title like its brother the Celerio. Sharing its engine with the Suzuki Celerio, the S-Presso has a three-cylinder engine, code-named 'K10B' and offers 50kW at 5 500 r/min and 90Nm of torque , thanks to its use of multi-point fuel injection and four valves per cylinder.

The Suzuki S-Presso has five model derivatives and two transmission options (a manual and an automatic transmission) to ensure that you have a variety of choices even in the budget segment.

The grille is flanked by squared-off halogen headlamps.

The exterior looks somewhat like a Mahindra KUV in my opinion, however the bold design and a tall stance with a 2.38 m wheelbase ensures roomy interior according to Suzuki South Africa. The S-Presso has an 'SUV' like design, a commanding driving position as well as a high ground clearance of 180mm thanks to its 14 inch steel wheels.

Safety also comes standard in all the models with Suzuki offering their clients rear parking sensors (while the GL+ and S-Edition Models receive a reverse camera), two airbags as standard and it is fitted with and anti-lock braking system (ABS) with emergency brake-force distribution (EBD).

“By using our modern passive safety technology in the design of the S-Presso, we have proven that affordable vehicles do not have to compromise on family safety,” - André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa.

All models also feature colour-coded door handles and side mirrors, with the choice of six exterior colours:

  • Sizzle Orange
  • Pearl Starry Blue
  • Fire Red
  • Metallic Granite Grey
  • Metallic Silky Silver and White.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available in the GL+ and S-Edition models

The interior - All versions of the S-Presso are very well equipped and feature electric windows for the front occupants, rear parking sensors, air conditioning, power steering and a multi-information display, which includes information such as distance to empty, trip duration and distance travelled.

There is a large circular centre console which houses the digital speedometer, the radio or infotainment system and the centrally mounted electric window and hazard switches. The GL+ and S-Edition models receive a 7inch colour infotainment system which offer a touch sensitive screen as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto the 7inch touch screen also has a rear view reverse camera, bluetooth and aux inputs. Colour inserts on selected panels have the same hue as the exterior and this seems to bring a bit of life in the interior.

The interior which features a large circular centre console does look roomy as Suzuki claims

My final Verdict - I have not been inside the Suzuki S-Presso or had it on test yet because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but I think that for the starting price you do get somewhat value for your money especially considering that you will be doing a claimed 49.l/100km which will in turn save you trips to the fuel station, the design does not strike me that much and hopefully it can convince me otherwise in the metal and for now I will choose the Face-lifted Datsun Go
